Brendan Éamon FitzPatrick Finucane, dit 'Paddy' Finucane, était un pilote Irlandais de la Royal Air Force. Il fut tué le 15 juillet 1942 au large de la Pointe du Touquet. Bien que sa carrière fut courte, il fut un as au score impressionnant de 32 victoires sûres (26 seul, 6 en partage) et 8 probables. Il fut aussi le plus jeune Wing Commander de l'histoire de la RAF. Il fut décoré de la DSO et DFC (deux barres).
Brendan Éamon FitzPatrick Finucane, known as 'Paddy' Finucane, was an Irish Royal Air Force fighter pilot. He was killed on the 15th July, 1942 over the 'Pointe du Touquet' (France). Despite his career was short, he became an ace with an impressive score standing at 32 victories (26 alone, 6 shared) and 8 probably destroyed. He was also youngest Wing Commander in its history. He received the DSO, DFC & Two Bars.

Né le 16 octobre 1920 à Rathmines, Dublin (Irlande), Finucane s'engage dans la Royal Air Force en mai 1938. Après sa période d'entraînement, il est affecté comme Officier Pilote sur Spitfire en 1940 au Squadron 65 à Hornchurch. Il remporte sa première victoire (Me Bf 109) le 12 août 1940. Mis au repos fin août 1940, le Squadron 65 retournera au sein du 11e groupe de la RAF en Novembre. Depuis Tangmere, Finucane revendiquera 5 victoires (4 Me Bf 109 et 1 Me Bf 110) sur la fin de l'année. En avril 1941, Finucane fut nommé Flight Commander au nouveau 452e Squadron australien basé à Kirton -in-Lindsey. Le 15 avril, il toucha Adolf Galland dans un combat aérien, ce qui obligea ce dernier à sauter en parachute au dessus de la côte française. De juillet à octobre 1941, il obtint 17 victoires supplémentaires.
Born on 16 October 1920 in Rathmines, Dublin (Ireland), Finucane joined the Royal Air Force in May 1938. After flying training, he was posted as a Pilot Officer on Spitfire in 1940 to 65 Squadron at Hornchurch. He claimed his first victory (Me Bf 109) on 12 August 1940. No. 65 Squadron was rested at the end of August 1940 and  returned to 11th RAF Group in November. Flying from RAF Tangmere, Finucane had claimed 5 victories (4 Me Bf 109s and 1 Me Bf 110) by year's end. In April 1941, Finucane was posted as a Flight Commander to the newly Australian 452 Squadron at Kirton-in-Lindsey. On 15 April, he hit Adolf Galland during a dog fight who was obliged to bail out over the French coast. From July to October 1941, he claimed 17 other victories.

En janvier 1942, Finucane devint Commander du Squadron 602 de la RAF à Redhill. Le 20 février, il fut blessé à la jambe lors d'une mission de strafing. En mars 1942,  il ajouta 4 Focke Wulf Fw 190 à son score. Il devint ensuite le plus jeune Wing Commander de la RAF le 27 juin 1942 à Hornchurch. Paddy Finucane fut tué le 15 juillet 1942, lorsqu'il conduisait une operation 'Ramrod' (attaque contre une cible terrestre) sur Etaples, dans le Nord de la France. Un tir venu du sol toucha son radiateur. Il vola encore un peu au large du Touquet pour finalement se crasher en mer. Son Spitfire coula immédiatement. Il totalisait alors 32 victoires sûres and 8 probables.
In January 1942, Finucane was given command of No. 602 Squadron RAF at RAF Redhill. On 20 February 1942, Finucane was wounded in the leg during a strafing mission. In March 1942, he added four Focke Wulf Fw 190s to his score. He then became the youngest Wing Commander in the RAF on 27 June 1942 at Hornchurch. Paddy Finucane was killed on 15 July 1942, when he was leading a fighter "Ramrod" operation (attack against a ground target) at Etaples, in Northern France. A single shot from the ground hit his radiator. He kept flying a bit off Le Touquet to finally crash above the sea. His Spitfire sank at once. By that time, he had claimed 32 aircraft destroyed and 8 probably destroyed.
