In opposition with many different pilots of World War II, Hanns Gühnther von Obernitz was a German officer, a politician and a convinced Nazi who led violent actions against Jewish people. He distinguished himself in aviation not because of his career or number of air kills but due to a specific action during WWII. It is the only reason of this topic in this section. I thank Michael Miller (Florida, USA) who helped me to tell the life of this person.

L'évènement ! - The event !
It is at this time that von Obernitz would have committed an amzing action ! According to a former observer of 2. (F)/123, Robert Danek, late 1941 or early 1942, for an unknown reason, von Obernitz took off drunk in a Junkers Ju 88 to fly and machine-gun the German headquarters in Athens ! This action made of course a lot of noise and von Obernitz had to pass in Military Court of which he would certainly have been condemned to death. It is said that due to his position in the SA, Göring would have interfer to assign him on the eastern front, in a army unit of the Luftwaffe. That is why he left the 2. (F)/123 on 21st (or 27th ?) January, 1942 (based at that time in Tatoi, Greece).

Officially, he left to be assigned as commander of the aviation school of Döberitz and was succeeded by the Hauptmann Hans Werner "Ali" to Gape, pilot of 2. (F)/123. But in fact, he would have been sent on the eastern front. He would have become in September, 1943 Kommandeur of the Luftwaffen-Jäger-Regiment 24 of 12. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division. This unit would have been absorbed by the army in November, 1943 as Jäger-Regiment 24 L / 12. Feld-Division (L) on the front of Volkhov (area of the 18th Army/Heeresgruppe North). He was killed on January 14th, 1944 at Exin (Kcynia) near bromberg (Bydgoszcz) in Poland.
